There was no split off from the rest of Pern. No fight or torment that forced riders and folk fropm their homes. They do not hate the North, there is no fued with it and despite differences with the surrounding Southern Weyr, they didn't hate the rest of the South. They're not isolated, quite the opposite: regular meetings are held with Founding Weyr in the North, as well as with the closest Southern Weyr. Simply, the founding Weyr was getting over crowded. So a party was sent to the South, asking for permission to create a new Weyr, settling in the location of an empty Weyr. This was at the end of the last Pass, and there was no problem to be seen in the moving or the Weyr in question. It even had new Star Stones! Everything seemed to be perfect.
SO WE LEFT FOR A NEW WORLD
Moving began instantly, small groups of riders moving in to clean and set things up. The record room was stocked, storerooms built up and the hatching sands was filled with sand. Crafters were brought in to furnish the Weyr: tapestries, furniture, decoration to stone walls, outside rooms. Everything was sorted before there was even talk of who to send to lead the Weyr, or even who would be sent. Two Holds placed themselves under the Weyr's protection, and things went ahead with only one hitch. The Weyrwoman chosen to lead the Weyr didn't want to go.
AND WE MET SOME PROBLEMS
Etenia, a women with a will of iron, liked her own Weyr, her own weyr and her life where she was. She did not fancy moving anywhere at all. But her Queen was not the oldest around and she was eventually tricked into going. A quick order on a dawn patrol, and an order not to fly or between back, was all that Danath needed to go. Etenia was furious. Her Weyrmate was the only one to calm her down, and for over a Turn Etenia refused to take part in the dealings of the Weyr. Finally however, the hatching of a healthy clutch brought her out of her shell, even if there was no Gold egg laid that Turn. She finally went about doing her duties as Weyrwoman, though her duties as Recorder are notibly lax. As of yet the Weyr had been given no real name, merely being referred to as 'Test Weyr'. Etenia set about trying to change that, but when no name was found she gave in.
THEY TRIED US
Barely three Turns into their lifetime, Etenia faces an order from the closest Southern Weyr, Simalntis, for the Weyr to deliver their next clutch of eggs. Etenia refuses astounded by such an act and they loose contact for months. Riders worry, as does Etenia herself. Extra watches were placed around the Weyr, more facing Simalntis then ever thought needed before. The idea that a Weyr could order another Weyr to surrender a clutch was unheard of! As the Weyr watched Danath rise to be caught once more by Bronze Gnath, they worried. As a clutch was laid, larger then Etenia's first, Simalntis struck. Dragons, including a young Gold made the short flight to the Weyr during the dead of night, silencing the watch dragon with a bribe. That did not mean they were unseen. Dragons who saw them were ordered silent by the Gold with them, until however a recently graduated rider heard his dragon comment that strangers were on the sands. Danath had been drugged asleep, and as eggs were being loaded onto the backs of the Bronze and Brown dragons there, the Weyr awaoke to the cries of a single dragon. Janath lead the attack to defend the Weyr's eggs, keeping dragons grounded by mainting command of the air. Two eggs were dropped as the Simalntis riders fled, and another three were stolen. Danath was beside herself once she awoke to mourning dragons. The shells were sent between despite them not ebing whole and having barely enough time to harden in the heat of the sands.
AND WE SHOWED THEM WRONG
Etenia called a meeting of the Southern Weyrs, not a day after the raid, and Simalntis was the topic of debate. It took another four sevendays for the council to come together, not because they weren't close enough or didn;t get the message in time, but because they thought Etenia was joking. She soon proved them wrong. She herself took a trip to each Weyr, telling them to come, or state a location for the meeting. The Weyr wasn't disbanded, and a set of tithings were sent from the Weyr to Etenia as punishment. But no one asked them to return the eggs or the dragons once they had hatched. Etenia was outraged, but did nothing to get them back, fearing another trip into the cold of between would do them more harm then good now. Once that was over everything seemed to go back to normal, the eggs hatched and word was sent of the three eggs that were stolen: two Blues and a Green. All three healthy dragons of amazing size. Etenia bred larger dragons then the Southern Weyrs it seemed. Turns passed without meening, without Thread and with no sign of a Pass anytime soon. Golds were hatched and the Weyr was populated massively. Ten Turns after Simalntis's raid, peace was made between the two Weyrs, and contact was once again opened. At the age of sixty four, Etenia died. But not before she was asked if the name could be named after her, it's founding Weyrwoman.
THEY TESTED US
Still, the Weyr lived peacefully for Turns after, living day to day life easily and with no trouble. The population of the Weyr expands massively in this time, while Founding Weyr, it's mother Weyr in the North, looses numbers at the same rate. Seventy seven Turns after the founding of the Weyr, it's life is suddenly in danger. The North called a meeting, not including Etenia Weyr, though it considers itself a Northern Weyr at this time in it's history. After all, it was founded by the North. Founding Weyr, the original Weyr, asks for it's riders back to populate it's gradually emptying halls. Of course this causes outrage. In the past fifty Turns Etenia's riders have not considered thenselves riders of Founding. The Weyr faced a huge problem: how could they stay in their home? Founding had every right to clal them back according to the rest of the North, and the decision had been made without them there. The Weyrwoman reacted by asking her Gold to ground every dragon for the next Turn, the Weyr was shut off from the rst of Pern, except for tithings, and it was claimed a plaugue had infected the Weyr. This went on for twelve months, nearly a full Turn. Greens were allowed to rise, but only in unseens areas. Movement was restricted, and there was no Gold clutch for the beginning of the year. Finally Founding gave in, leaving Etenia to it's own devices as it was fully proclaimed it's own Weyr. Soon after a clutch was laid, and Holds form all around were invited to the hatching. Founding Weyrleaders were also invited, as a sign of good faith.
WE WORKED OUR WAY THROUGH THEM
The rest is, as they say, history, and the Weyr makes a new one now with each passing day. Two Turns ago a Green hatched, Green Lath of Y'von, who has never touched a firestone since her hatching. Y'von has not allowed his dragon to chew the stone, and she has not risen once in this time. There is much debate on whether or not the pair should be made to fly in a normal wing, making the Green chew firestone. Neither of the two Gold's have risen in the past two Turns, and with Threadfall supposingly so close, people are worrying that the Weyr will not have enough wings. Scandals are rife, both in Weyr and Hold. Rumours are flicking through Halls about someting terrible going on in one of the nearby Holds, rumours of an odd occurance in the Weyr. Life is going on as normal, and though it seems calm, there are always storms below the surface.
